Memorials in North Shropshire, South Cheshire & West Staffordshire.

Owens Memorials in Market Drayton offers memorials in a range of styles and sizes throughout the Shropshire, Cheshire & Staffordshire areas.

Fixing of memorial headstones

Recent health and safety guidelines and recommendations by the National Association of Memorial Masons suggest that for reasons of safety, all memorials with a height of 20", 500mm or more should be erected using a ground anchor support system. This is to prevent risk of injury, should at any time in the future, the memorial becomes loose, dislodged or dangerous in any way.

For liability insurance purposes, it is now becoming increasingly commonplace for the church and cemetery authorities to carry out fairly rigorous stability tests on memorials at regular intervals with responsibility for those considered unsafe resting with the owner of the memorial.

It is for these reasons that when ordering a headstone, we will only fix it using a ground anchor support system. This also applies to memorials, which are to be fixed following a further burial or inscription, however, on occasions this can entail the supply of a new concrete under base.

The approved system employed by us is known as a Central Collapsible Anchor (CCA) and is designed to be of the 'progressive failure type'. The below diagram demonstrates how it is incorporated into the memorial. The dowels (silver) are stainless steel 150mm long and 21mm in diameter. The ground anchor is 'threaded' marine quality stainless steel. They are 700mm long with a diameter of 24mm.

It is always our intention to supply and erect memorials to the highest possible standards, and we are sure that this implementation can only add to the peace of mind of our customers.
